This isn’t an original statement but the slogan for the rebrand of an indie comedy venue in Bedstuy-Brooklyn known as Brooklyn House of Comedy coined by comedienne Joanna Briley in 2019. It was a creative space managed by comedians with the intention of growing talent and being a home for comedians.

For the history of those who didn’t know about comedy in Portland, Maine. In 2012 the Portland Maine Comedy Connection closed its doors which marked the end of Maine’s dedicated comedy club. However comedy was and has been kept alive by the independent comedy shows run by Maine’s local comedians. Until 2020 when Lucas Salisbury transitioned the space above Empire Chinese Food in Portland, Maine into Empire Comedy Club.

2020 the pandemic struck. Comedy may have taken a pause but it didn’t stop when it returned Buxton, Maine comedian Marcus Cardona back home from Brooklyn, NY. Inspired by comedians still bringing laughs to people outdoors pre-vaccine, he partnered with Thompson’s Point to keep comedy alive in Maine and brought new energy to Portland, ME creating the 11 time SOLD OUT - Cabin Fever.

Instilled by his experience as assistant manager of Brooklyn House of Comedy and producing a numerous amount shows - including Don’t Tell Comedy in March of 2022. Located in the heart of Portland, Maine’s downtown in partnership with Free Street Restaurant and Bar this is Maine House of Comedy “funny place to call home.” Maine House of Comedy is an independently Maine comedian run comedy club.
